The election in Euskadi

A good number of people have reminded me that I haven't written anything about the election in Euskadi last weekend. But GlynBeddau has, and the article on Nationalia is very helpful too.

In this interview, Jill Evans talks about the result with José-Luis Linazasoro from Euskadi and Jordi Bacardit from Catalunya.

It's wort keeping an eye on the English language online news service on the Basque public broadcaster ETiB. The ETiB is a sort of Basque BBC which broadcasts tv and radio in both Basque and Spanish. In light of the previous debate on this site maybe it'd be something we should consider in Wales as so many seem unhappy with BBC Wales.

It's a regular port of call for me too, M. But I've found that the English version of the site usually carries less news that the Castilian and Euskera versions (ES and EU in the top left corner). I go to them and use Google translate for what isn't in English. There's something rather satisfying about reading of Basque politics in Welsh.

MH - I should never have doubted your endeavour to get the best international coverage for Syniadau! I'd also recommend reading the Catalan news0site - www.vilaweb.cat

But why cut and paste into googletranslate? If you use the googlechrome browser you can click and get onscreen translation ... even into Welsh!

I use Chrome for some things, but it's not up to heavyweight browsing ... nor is it available in Welsh. I find Opera is better at almost everything, is in Welsh (although so is Firefox), and doesn't need extensions (although some are available) because it has so much already built-in. The only problem is finding out how to do it.

And there's no need for anyone using any browser to cut and paste into Google translate. Just add a toolbar button.

This link has story on the possible coalitions- http://www.eitb.com/en/news/politics/detail/974442/basque-vote--vote-winner-pnv-search-postelection-agreements/

Obviously as a Welsh nationalist i'd like to see a PNV-Bildu coalition but I think maybe we underestimate how little the centrist nationalists want an independent Basque state compared to the left nationalists. I think a PNV-PSOE coalition is most likely, sadly. Inigo Urkullu, the PNV leader, wants "calm" and to protect the Basque country within existing arrangements, rather than causing the alleged "instability" of forming a new Basque state in the EU. Alot of mainstream/centre-right Basque nationalists also think they're already as independent as they need to be.

The left nationalists are really quite different in attitude in that statehood is extremely important to them, rather than just being the Basque establishment.

whilst we're on this tangent, a Welsh-English; English-Welsh dictionary FREE app has been launched today.

Can be downloaded onto Android as well. It's good:
